ZAC Browser (Zone for Autistic Children) is a web browser designed specifically for children and teenagers with autism and autism spectrum disorders such as Asperger syndrome, pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) and PDD-NOS. Because autistic children display characteristics such as impairments in social interaction, impairments in communication, restricted interests and repetitive behavior, the standard browser experience can often be overwhelming. The ZAC browser reduces the number of user interface controls and removes access to much of the Web in order to simplify the experience for autistic children. ZAC browser is available for download for Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista.

Tryton is a three-tier high-level general purpose computer application platform on top of which is built a business solution (or ERP) through a set of so-called Tryton modules. The Tryton platform is organised around a three-tiers architecture: The Tryton client, the Tryton server and the DBMS (mainly PostgreSQL). The platform along with the official modules is licenced under the GPL-3. The name Tryton refers to Triton, the largest moon of planet Neptune, and Python, the implementation language. Tryton’s origin is a fork of the version 4.2 of TinyERP (which was later called OpenERP). In contrast to their parent project and other open-source business software, the Tryton founders avoided creating a partner network which tends to generate opposition and duality between the partners and the community of volunteers. They followed the PostgreSQL example where the project is driven by a federation of companies. The release process is organised around series. A series is a set of releases with the same two first numbers (E.G. 1.0 or 1.2) that shares the same API and the same database scheme. A new series appears every six months and new versions in older release are introduced when bugfixes are available.

SpagoBI is an integration platform for the Business Intelligence entirely developed according to the FOSS philosophy. It is a platform because it covers and satisfies all the BI requirements, both in terms of analysis and of data management, administration and security. In the analytical world it offers solutions for reporting, multidimensional analysis (OLAP), Data Mining, Dashboard and ad-hoc query. It adds original modules for the management of collaborative processes which build analytical dossiers and for the geo-referenced analysis. It has tools for the data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) and it supports the administrator in the maintenance of the analytical documents, managing the versioning and the approval workflow. SpagoBI has a behavioural model which regulates the visibility on the data and the behaviour of the single documents in relation to the end users’ roles. SpagoBI is an integration platform (and not a product platform) because it isn’t built and closed around a predefined set of tools. It has a modular structure in which every module is related to the core of the system, which guarantees the harmony of the platform together with its evolutive capability. It integrates specific analytical engines for every area (reporting, olap, dashboard, data mining, etc.) and it allows the use of several engines on the same analytical area at the same time (several reporting engines at the same time, several data mining engines at the same time, etc.) not necessarily only FOSS. In fact, SpagoBI also permits the integration of proprietary solutions (Business Objects or Microsoft Analysis Services for instance) to allow one to compose the best platform for a particular problem. SpagoBI is entirely FOSS, it doesn’t have any market module and doesn’t have a double product version; it takes the BI Open Source to the enterprise level, in fact the behavioural model regulates the visibility on the data according to the business responsibilities and it has a scalable architecture also remaining in the FOSS logic.

JFire is an Enterprise Resource Planning and Customer Relationship Management system. The system has been written entirely in Java and is based on the technologies J2EE, JDO 2, Eclipse RCP 3. Hence, both client and server can easily be extended and it requires only a relatively low effort to customize it for specific sectors or companies. Currently, JFire already provides modules for user and access rights control, accounting, store management, direct online trade with other companies or end-customers (e.g. via a web shop), an editor for 2-dimensional graphics and other useful plugins. A reporting module which is based on BIRT allows for the editing and rendering of reports, statistics and similar documents (e.g. invoices). Even though the main goal of the software is to serve as a robust and flexible framework and thus to ease the implementation of sector-specific applications, it contains modules for the out-of-the-box usage in small and medium-sized enterprises. Because JFire uses JDO as persistence layer, it is independent of the underlying database management system (DBMS) and spares developers the error-prone work of writing SQL. Furthermore, the use of JDO makes it possible to employ other DBMS types (e.g. object databases). JFire is shipped with the JDO2 reference implementation DataNucleus, which supports many relational databases and db4o. Even though Java EE, JDO and Eclipse RCP provide many advantages, they have the disadvantage that they require a longer training period than older technologies (e.g. direct SQL). JFire was published under the conditions of the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL). Therefore, everyone can redistribute it, modify it and use it.

The Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT) Project is an open source software that provides reporting and business intelligence capabilities for rich client and web applications, especially those based on Java and J2EE. BIRT is a top level software project within the Eclipse Foundation. The project’s stated goals are to address a wide range of reporting needs within a typical application, ranging from operational or enterprise reporting to multi-dimensional online analytical processing (OLAP). BIRT has two main components: a visual report designer within the Eclipse IDE for creating BIRT Reports, and a runtime component for generating reports that can be deployed to any Java environment. The BIRT project also includes a charting engine that is both fully integrated into the report designer and can be used standalone to integrate charts into an application. BIRT Report designs are persisted as XML and can access a number of different data sources including SQL databases, JDO datastores, JFire Scripting Objects, POJOs, XML and Web Services.

Subversion (SVN) is a version control system initiated in 1999 by CollabNet Inc. It is used to maintain current and historical versions of files such as source code, web pages, and documentation. Its goal is to be a mostly-compatible successor to the widely used Concurrent Versions System (CVS). Subversion is well-known in the open source community and is used on many open source projects, including Apache Software Foundation, Free Pascal, FreeBSD, GCC, Python, Django, Ruby, Mono, SourceForge.net, ExtJS, Tigris.org, and PHP. Google Code also provides Subversion hosting for their open source projects. BountySource systems use it exclusively. Codeplex offers access to both Subversion as well as other types of clients. Subversion is also being adopted in the corporate world. In a 2007 report by Forrester Research, Subversion was recognized as the sole leader in the Standalone Software Configuration Management (SCM) category and a strong performer in the Software Configuration and Change Management (SCCM) category. Subversion is released under the Apache License, making it open source.
